What are services like?
Morning worship services follow what would be considered a traditional Presbyterian format. Every month which has 5 Sundays, however, on the 5th Sunday we hold morning worship in our Fellowship Hall, following a more "contemporary" format, using multimedia and having a more informal feel to the service. Our music varies, and we sing hymns from many musical traditions, including early American, international influence, Celtic influence, gospel, traditional historic composers, and straight out of the Presbyterian Hymnal. We have a children's sermon every morning, after which the younger members are invited to go to a children's church, led by volunteers from our congregation. The service follows the structure of traditional worship, with praise, prayer, singing, sermon, giving opportunities, and sending into the world.
What is the community like?
Our congregation is composed of all ages, different vocations and levels of faith. We are united in a common desire to answer God's call, growing in our discipleship as followers of Jesus Christ through prayer, study and a willingness to follow the Spirit's call to serve the world around us. There are many different gifts offered by the members of this congregation. We identify and strengthen these gifts as an offering, to be used for God's purpose and glory.
What are some of the ways we serve those around us with Christ's love? Well of course through worship, Bible study, and fellowship, yet we also have an active life of mission which includes food-packing projects and mobile food pantry sponsorship, establishment of a community garden project, strong support of CVAN and CCM, and partnerships with a local elementary school and Latin Mission Christ Savior, a Latino worshiping community. Latin Mission Christ Savior uses our facilities for worship, study and service. Occasionally we are honored to worship together with them, particularly the community Thanksgiving Service and World Day of Prayer. In partnering with Fred L. Wilson Elementary School, the congregation has the opportunity to serve the families and children of our community. We collect school supplies, teacher supplies, and uniforms. A few years ago, we implemented a growing "Suds of Love" ministry, to help families wash clothing for their children at a local laundromat. It is in these moments of service and cooperation that we truly have the chance to experience the Church Universal.
